What’s Ahead for 2006
As market estimates predicted, 2005 proved to be a banner growth year for the life settlements industry and for brokers who used life settlements as a financial planning tool to serve their high-net-worth clients.  It's important to consider how the life settlements market will evolve in 2006 and how brokers and their clients can use life settlements as a tool in developing financial planning strategies.

Life Settlements Advance as an Asset Class
As life settlements continue transforming the way wealth-management professionals serve their high-net-worth clients, the potential for securitization of this asset has garnered the interest of investors throughout the world. Hedge fund managers, in particular, are considering life settlement securitizations as a means of financial return.   As a non-correlated asset class, generally independent of the stock market, life settlements are an investment with minimal gap risk. Helping Clients Understand the Life Settlement Industry

Life settlements have become increasingly popular with seniors, who often use the cash proceeds as a means of funding annuities or other investments, supplemental retirement income, or new options in estate planning or planned giving, which may better suit their financial goals.

As clients pursue alternative solutions to long-term financial and health care needs, agents and brokers will be faced with questions regarding life settlements. Life settlement brokers and agents should understand the emerging segment of the industry, including history, terminology and the legal framework in which it conducts business.
